Face Painting by Sharvell - Simple Tips

How to Select a Face Painter

There are precautions you should consider before you hire a face painter for your kids event.  Meet with the artist via telephone or in person to get a good understanding of the artist's personality and work ethic. A face painter's attitude, patience and personality can determine whether your event will or will not be successful. Being cheerful, patient and a speedy painter are the main ingredients of a successful event.  Here are a few questions to ask prospective face painters:

  1. Ask how many years of experience they have.

  2. Ask if they keep their tools hygienic.

  3. Ask for a list of events where they have appeared.

  4. Ask if they have a list of referrals that you can call.

  5. Ask how they handle domineering parents, shy children, or extremely excited kids.

  6. Ask to see their website or a portfolio of their work.

  7. Ask how many children they can paint in an hour

  8. Ask if they get paid per face or per hour (50% deposit/50% at the event is standard)

  9. Ask if they bring all the equipment and supplies to the event. (You may be required to provide a table, chair, etc.)

  10. Ask what kind of face paints they use. (It should be FDA compliant)

  11. Ask if they are insured.

  12. A quality, professional face painter should ONLY use FDA-compliant, authentic faces paints.

Never allow a face painter who uses acrylic, or any other forms of craft paints to paint your child’s face or body.  Acrylic and craft paint are not safe for the skin and can cause allergic reactions from children who have sensitive skin.

Always make sure that you also get a firm agreement that is legal and signed and keep a copy of this agreement.

Use Sharvell’s simple tips and you will hire a professional face painter that will make your kids face painting event successful and memorable.
